The text editor is a group of options that help you format and structure your text. You can apply multiple formatting options to the same text and see exactly how it looks before saving. Use the editor toolbar at the top of the fields to format your text or insert files.
The new editor is available in some, but not all, input fields yet starting from the release on March 2nd, 2025. The editor adapts for different locations and only includes relevant formatting tools. There are three major editor types:
Basic
The basic text editor includes minimal formatting and embedding options. You can use this editor in the assignment description, objectives and flow description fields.
Rich
The rich text editor includes full set of formatting and embedding options. You can use this editor when formulating questions.
Collapsible
The toolbar can be expanded in the collapsible editor when needed by clicking on the text_format icon on the right side of the field. To hide it, click on the icon again. When expanded, it can be either a Basic or Rich text editor depending on its location:
- The Basic collapsible text editor can be used for flags and discussions. Click on the text_format icon to use the options.
- The Rich collapsible text editor can be used in answer alternatives and alternative feedback fields in multiple choice questions. Click on the text_format icon next to the answer alternative or feedback to use it.
Add quotes
You can style your text with quotes. Click on the format_quote icon in the toolbar to start a new quote or highlight a piece of text first to turn it into a quote. When quoting:
- Press Shift + Enter to start a new line within the quote. With this, you can keep adding new lines indefinitely without exiting the quote until you decide to do so.
- Press Enter once to stay in the quote.
- Press Enter twice to exit the quote.
To remove the quote styling, put your cursor in the quoted text and click on the format_quote icon again.
Insert links

If you need to open the inserted link, click anywhere on the linked text and press the URL in the pop-up. The URL will open in a new tab. To edit or remove a link, click the linked text and choose the desired action in the pop-up.
Embed files
You can add extra details by embedding files into your text. To embed files, follow the steps below:
- Click on the file_upload icon in the toolbar.
- Drop files in the dialog or click to upload. It is possible to upload multiple files at once, these will stack vertically.
If you want to edit or delete a file, click on the name of the file and choose the desired action in the pop-up. For images, you can adjust positioning and add alt text in the edit dialogue.
Add audio recordings
You can enhance your message by adding audio recordings to your text. To create an audio recording, follow the steps below:
- Click on the mic icon in the toolbar. The icon changes to the graphic_eq icon while highlighted in purple.
- Click on the graphic_eq icon to stop the recording.
