Settings
Name
If necessary, you can change the name of an assignment. An assignment can be renamed even after it has results. To change the name, fill in the updated name and click Rename. This option is possible for all assignment types.
Description
If needed, you can add a description to your assignment. The description is visible for students from the moment a timeslot is added. This option is possible for all assignment types, however the description for a written assignment is not visible to students as written assignments are not shown in the scheduled or live assignment overview for students.
Assignment template
Allows creating new assignments with the same settings as this assignment. When enabled, it is possible to select this template when creating a new assignment. The name of the assignment will be the name of your template.
You can find more information on assignment templates here.
Assignment label
Assignment labels can be assigned to your assignment. Assignment labels can be used to show the status of an assignment. Often, assignment protection rules have been added to the assignment label to disable certain changes. The use of labels is not mandatory, but recommended. Assignment labels can be used in all assignment types and can be assigned to assignments by instructors, department administrators and administrators, however only administrators have the rights to create assignment labels and define assignment protection rules to each label.
Type
In the dropdown menu Type*, you can choose between a formative and summative assignment type. Changing the type alters the icon on the assignment overview page. However, this option is mainly used for setting the review period, which can can be enabled by an administrator on school level. More information can be found here (under the dropdown menu 'Review period).
Actions
Copy assignment
Once you have created an assignment, you have the option to copy the assignment to the either the same course or another course that you are an instructor in. If you click on 'Copy', you will see an overview of courses that you can copy the assignment to. Assignments can only be copied to courses in the current schoolyear.
Convert assignment
After creating a digital test or written assignment, it is possible to convert the assignment. Converting a written assignment to a digital test might be useful in cases where a student needs to take the test remotely. Converting a digital test to a written assignment may be useful in cases where a student is not able to access or take the test digitally. When converting an assignment, a copy is made. Both assignments will stay available in the assignment overview after converting.
If Ans detects that you are using a question type that is incompatible when converting an assignment, a warning will be shown. You can choose to ignore this message by clicking Confirm. Ans will then try to convert the question as best as possible.
Please keep in mind, that variables cannot be used in written assignments. Variables need to be changed to specific values. If LaTeX is present in your written assignment, you will need to remove the newlines (enters) around the LaTeX after the digital test has been converted to a written assignment.
Additionally, when converting a written assignment to a digital test, $$ signs may need to be added around the LaTeX manually. This is due to the fact that written assignments use a different formatting compared to digital tests.
In the table below you can see how the different question types are converted from digital to the written version.
