To save time with creating assignments, you have the option to make use of an assignment template. You can do this by creating the template from within the settings of your assignment, which will make it available for you to reuse.
This option can be used if you want to administer multiple assignments for which you want the same settings to apply. For example, when you have multiple formative exams which students can use to practice before the final exam.
You can select assignment templates from courses where you are a member. If you want to share your template with a colleague, you should add your colleague to the course with the template assignment.
What settings will be copied
- The assignment type
- Instructions and layout settings
- General settings, e.g. the description, label etc.
- Accessibility settings including restricted assignment access locations
- Review, result and publication settings
- Integrations, e.g. Proctorio, Readspeaker etc. and their corresponding settings

Edit an assignment template
You can easily adjust the settings for your template by editing the settings in the assignment the template is based on. This will automatically update the template with the new settings.
If your template is based on an assignment with results, you might not want to edit the settings. If this is the case, you can decide to first copy your assignment. You can then create a template from this copy by following the steps outlined earlier in this article.
Delete an assignment template
There are two ways to delete an assignment template. The first option is to remove your assignment. This will remove the template option from the list when creating a new assignment. If the assignment is restored, the assignment template will be added to the list of options again.
The second option is to uncheck the assignment template option in the settings as described in the steps below.
- Click your domain School name in the menu on the left.
- Click label_important Courses in the menu at the top.
- Select your course or use the search bar.
