Flow can be used to make unique tests per participant by randomly picking a number of exercises from a flow group. This function allows you to put multiple exercises into one group. Every participant will receive a specified number of exercises from every flow group. Flow can also be used to further prevent participants from receiving previous exercises as Ans keeps track of the used exercises per student.
To use flow in your digital test, follow the steps below.
- Navigate to your assignment.
- Click dashboard Digital test in the menu at the top.
- Click Flow in the menu at the top.
- Drag the exercises (the white bars) you want to combine in the same group (the grey box).
Empty flow groups will be automatically removed upon page refresh. - Click the more_horiz-icon and click Edit.
- Fill in the name, a description if necessary. Enter the amount of exercises that should be selected for this group. For example 1 out of 2. This number of exercises will randomly be picked from the flow group.
- Click Save.
- Optionally, select the icon to Shuffle order of exercises.
- Click New group if you want to bundle another group of exercises.
Options for Flow groups
- Shuffle flow groups
This option is presented as a toggle on the top of the Flow tab. Enabling this option gives every participant a different order of exercises. The order of the exercises in a digital test is based on the order of the question groups set under the flow tab. When picking multiple exercises from one group you have the option to shuffle the selected exercises within the group. - Pin flow group
Click on the icon on the flow group in order to pin the flow group at the start or end of a digital test. This makes it so the shuffling of flow groups can be limited to a set number of flow groups in the middle of a digital test.

Ans remembers which exercises from the question bank have been included in previous assignments of specific participants. If there are alternative exercises available, the exercises which were selected before will be excluded from their assignment.
