Tools
Tools
In the Tools section, you can choose which utilities participants may use during the digital test.
-
Digital notes
If this option is enabled, participants can make digital notes during the digital test. Digital notes can only be seen by the participants during the live test and not by instructors or reviewers during or after the digital test.
-
Spellchecker
If spellchecker is enabled, participants will be able to see red lines underneath spelling errors for both open questions and fill-in questions. This option uses the built-in spellchecker of the browser and is not provided by Ans. We recommend only enabling spellchecker if spelling is not a criterion for the test.
-
Calculator
Allow participants to use the built-in calculator. You can select the basic or scientific calculator.
-
Run live code
Allow participants to run and test code directly within the digital test.
-
Show whether closed questions were answered correctly
If you enable this option, participants will be able to see if the answer they provided is correct, partially correct or incorrect. This option can be set for closed questions only.
Navigation
Navigation
In the Navigation section, you can enforce a specific type of navigation during the digital test. Only one navigation restriction can be active at a time.
-
View once:
-
All sections
Participants cannot reopen a section after closing. The participant will receive a warning when moving to a different section. -
All exercises
Participants may only view exercises once; they may not return to an exercise that they closed. The participant will receive a warning when moving to a different exercise. -
None
No navigation restrictions are applied.

-
Require answer to unlock next exercise (beta)
Participants must answer each exercise before they can proceed to the next one.
Layout
Layout
In the Layout section, you can choose from various layout options. This includes the layout of exercises, the option to shuffle the order of answer options and sections, select which enumeration you would like to use and the option to use a theme for your digital test.
-
Display question points
The number of maximum points for each question is displayed.
-
Shuffle answer alternatives
The answer options of multiple choice questions, multiple response, fill-in-the-blank questions with dropdown, and hotspot match questions will be shuffled.
-
Add "Leave unanswered" option to multiple choice and multiple response questions
This option allows students to deliberately leave a question unanswered. Selecting this alternative will mark the question as having no given answer, but will not cause the unanswered questions warning to be shown. If the guess correction is set to only count answered questions, responses with the blank alternative selected will be counted as unanswered, the same as if the student had selected no alternative at all.
-
Display exercise names
The titles of the exercises will be displayed.
-
Display section names and descriptions
The names and descriptions of sections will be displayed to participants.
-

-
