Bug fixes
-
Removed the old search bar in the Editor panel of question bank assignments
Previously, question bank assignments showed two search bars: one in the "Table of contents" panel, and an older one at the top of the "Editor" panel. The search bar in the "Editor" panel is removed.Searching the exercises of a question bank assignment is possible with the search bar in the "Table of contents" panel, the same as in course assignments.
-
Fixed an issue where the question bank filter was no longer applied after changing the sorting order
Previously, when you opened an exercise from a filtered question bank and went back to the overview, the filter was still shown as active. Clicking the sort button in a column header then showed all exercises again.Changing the sorting order now keeps the active filter. The overview shows only the exercises that match the filter, whichever column you sort by.
-
Fixed an issue where a code answer containing only HTML tags was removed when navigating to another question
Previously, an answer to a code question that contained only HTML tags without any text was removed when the student navigated to another question. An example of a code question with only HTML tags is<nav><ul><li></li></ul></nav>. Answers with text inside the tags were kept. Now, code answers will only be removed when they are actually empty.
-
Fixed an issue where the filename shown in stripped text content would always be
Previously, when text was displayed without formatting, images were represented by the text '[download]'. This could be confusing for users, as it could be mistaken for a download link. This could occur, for example, in the tooltip of a criterion description containing an image. This has now been improved. Images are now represented by '[image]' when text is displayed without formatting. The label automatically follows the user's language. For example, Dutch users will see '[afbeelding]'.
-
Fixed an issue where videos in the instructions before a digital test did not play
When students opened a digital test from the schedule on their home page, the video in "Instructions before the test" stayed at 0:00 and did not play. The video only played after the page was refreshed.Videos and audio added in the text editor now load when the page is opened from a link. This covers "Instructions before the test" and all other text that is written in the text editor.
-
Fixed an issue where the default theme was not applied when creating a question bank assignment
Previously, a new question bank assignment did not get the school's default theme. The "Theme" field in its settings showed the first theme in the list instead.A new question bank assignment now gets the school's default theme, the same as a new course assignment. Question bank assignments created before this fix keep their current setting until a theme is chosen and saved in their settings.
-
Removed the link button from the notes panel of a digital test
The notes panel that students can open while taking a digital test no longer has a link button. Students can still format their notes with bold, italic, underline and lists. The link dialog accepted any address, including
javascript:addresses. Clicking such a link ran the script in the student's own browser until the note was saved, after which the address was removed. The note is only ever shown to the student who wrote it, so nobody else was affected.
-
Fixed an issue where ReadSpeaker stopped working when navigating between exercises in a digital test using the Next or Previous exercise buttons
Previously, clicking "Next exercise" or "Previous exercise" in a digital test loaded the other exercise without reloading the page. In digital tests with ReadSpeaker, ReadSpeaker did not start again on that exercise. The play button did not appear when selecting text, the "Listen" button opened the MP3 file instead of playing the audio, and the ReadSpeaker settings menu did not open. This issue did not occur when navigating between exercises using the left-hand navigation bar and selecting a question number. Now, using the "Next exercise" and "Previous exercise" buttons reloads the full page, ensuring that ReadSpeaker is correctly initialised for each exercise. The confirmation before "Submit and continue" is still shown.
-
Fixed an issue where Safe Exam Browser on Windows sometimes reported an incorrect configuration during a digital test
Previously, a student taking a digital test in Safe Exam Browser on Windows could land on the "Incorrect configuration detected" page when opening a question, even though the configuration was correct. On navigation, Safe Exam Browser sometimes provided a key computed for the previous page. Therefore, the check would fail and redirect the student to the "Incorrect configuration detected" page. Now, when the check finds a mismatch the page reloads once, which gives Safe Exam Browser the chance to provide the key for the right page. Only when the key still does not match after that reload is the student sent to "Incorrect configuration detected" page. The check also no longer sends a student to that page when the page changes while the check is still waiting for Safe Exam Browser.
-
Fixed an issue where students got unproctored time in a proctorio exam when the student was blocked out of the exam
Previously, when Proctorio blocked a student, for example after they tried to download a file, the digital test stayed open for up to 50 seconds before the page with the "Launch Proctorio" button appeared. During that time the student could leave the digital test, copy text from other websites and paste it into their answers without it showing in the recording.A "Waiting for Proctorio…" screen now covers the digital test until Proctorio confirms that it is monitoring. When Proctorio reports that it stopped monitoring, the screen covers the digital test straight away and the student is sent to the "Launch Proctorio" page. When Proctorio stops responding, the screen covers the digital test within 2 seconds and the student is sent to the "Launch Proctorio" page after 5 seconds. Moving between exercises does not reset this.
-
Fixed an issue where print forms could contain an outdated version of the first form
Previously, the first form in a new set of print forms could be generated using an outdated version of the assignment. This could happen when the assignment preview was still being generated while the print forms were being created. For example, this could occur shortly after synchronising an assignment with the question bank version or after deleting previously generated print forms. When using the 'Download forms' action, the first form could therefore be based on the previous version of the assignment. This could result in a different order of answer alternatives compared to the version used for grading. As a result, automatically graded answers on the first form could be incorrect because they were evaluated against an outdated version of the assignment.
Now, new print forms can no longer be generated while the assignment preview is still being created. If you attempt to download the forms during this process, the following message will appear: "The preview is still being generated. Try again once it is ready." Once the preview is ready, the download is prepared only after all forms, including the first one, have been generated using the current version of the assignment. Print forms for specific participants, and print forms made after the first set, are not affected.
We have investigated the potential impact of this issue. Apart from the school that originally reported it, we found no indications that print forms were affected at other schools.
-
Fixed an issue where selecting the same suggestion twice lead to 'No page found' when resolving incomplete forms
Previously, when resolving incomplete forms after a scan upload, choosing a page through the search icon and confirming it a second time for the same position would show "No page found". The position now shows the chosen page as a replaced page every time it is confirmed.
-
Improved the Assignment Analytics header to match assignment insights
The column showing the number of results per assignment on the school's Assignment analysis page has been renamed from "Participants" to "Results". This change better reflects how results are counted elsewhere in ans. The CSV and Excel exports of this page use the same header.
-
Fixed an issue where the titles were misaligned in the objectives tab
Previously, when "Comparison with average" was turned off in the publication settings, students saw the "You" heading on the objectives tab of their result at the left, while their scores stood in the column on the right. The "You" heading now sits above the scores. With "Comparison with average" turned on, the "Average" and "You" headings are unchanged.
-
Fixed an issue where the removed users list stopped loading more users
Previously, scrolling down the "Removed users" page in the school settings would stop loading more users. This happened because the "Show more" link at the bottom of the list was not replaced after a page loaded. Now, scrolling down the "Removed users" page will continue to load additional removed users until the end of the list is reached.
-
Fixed an issue where opening a link or accepting an invitation to another school could skip two-factor authentication
Previously, when a user had accounts at multiple schools, opening a link or accepting an invitation to another school would automatically switch the user to the account associated with that school. This meant that users could switch accounts without being prompted for their two-factor authentication (2FA) code. Now, if the account at the other school has two-factor authentication (2FA) enabled, Ans will ask the user to enter their 2FA code before switching accounts. Once the code has been entered successfully, the user is redirected to the page they were originally trying to access through the link or invitation.
-
Fixed an issue where the destination list for adding exercises from a question bank included assignments that users could not access
Previously, the destination list in the "Add exercises to" dialog of a question bank would show question bank assignments the user had no access to because of their custom role. Selecting one of these assignments would lead them to an access denied page. The destination list in the "Add exercises to" dialog of a question bank now only shows the question bank assignments you are allowed to add exercises to. When your custom role does not allow editing question bank assignments or their exercises, those assignments no longer appear under "Add within this question bank". Course assignments are still listed.
-
Fixed an issue where adding an assignment through LTI sometimes failed on a school's custom domain
Previously, when a teacher added an assignment from the LMS (LTI deep linking) at a school that enforces its custom domain, ans sometimes showed the school's sign-in page inside the LMS instead of the list of assignments. That page cannot be shown inside the LMS, so the teacher saw an error. Trying again usually worked. The LTI launch signs the teacher in on ans.app and then hands the session over to the custom domain with a one-time link. The hand-over failed whenever the browser still held an older session for the custom domain. That older session was rejected before the one-time link was read, and the teacher was sent to sign in again.
A one-time link now takes precedence over an expired or replaced session. This also applies to the one-time links that open a digital test in Safe Exam Browser or Schoolyear.
