A question bank often contains a collection of exercises that belong to the same subject, field of education or study. You can use question banks to collaborate on exercises with your colleagues. You can even collaborate with colleagues from other schools to improve quality and save time.

In a question bank, you can create, store, share, test, tag, label and reuse exercises. In addition, assignments can be created by using blueprints that match the study goals of the curriculum.

Question banks are stand-alone and are created separately from your courses.

Benefits of a question bank

  • Compose an assignment faster by (re)using existing exercises.
  • Store questions from the same subject in one place.
  • Align exercises with the objectives of a curriculum.
  • Verify exercises by allowing colleagues to share feedback.
  • Automatically generate assignments based on a blueprint.
  • Analyse the quality of exercises across multiple assignments.

Question bank sections

  • Exercises
    In this tab all exercises of the question bank can be found. Also, exercises can be created, modified and reviewed by colleagues. Read more about question bank exercises here.
     
  • Question bank assignments
    In this tab assignments are stored and new assignments can be composed of exercises from the question bank. Read more about question bank assignments here.
     
  • Objectives
    In this tab objectives are stored and new objectives can be created so exercises can be linked to that objective. Read more about objectives here.
     
  • Contributors
    In this tab all contributors of the question bank are shown and you have the option to invite contributors. Read more about contributors here.
     
  • Settings
    In this tab you can change the name of the question bank or edit labels. Read more about question bank settings here.
Create a question bank

Create a question bank

error_outline Your ability to perform this action depends on the privilege settings of your school. Please contact your school administrators if you do not have permission to perform certain actions. 

To create a question bank, follow the steps below.

  1. Click domain School name in the menu on the left.
  2. Click folder Question banks in the menu at the top.
  3. Click New question bank.
  4. Fill in the name of the question bank.
  5. Optionally, fill in the name of the study that the question bank is linked to.
  6. Click Create.

After creating your question bank you will be brought to the exercises overview page of your question bank.

Access question banks

Access question banks

You can access question banks either from the question banks overview or from the home page.

The question banks overview displays all question banks you have access to within the currently selected school. The question banks in the question bank overview can be sorted in three ways:

  • Recently updated: the question banks are sorted by which ones were last updated.
  • Newest first: the question banks are sorted by which ones were created most recently.
  • Alphabetically A-Z: the question banks are sorted alphabetically (from A to Z).

The sorting preference is personal is saved by the system.

Sorting question banks

The home page displays all question banks you have access to across all your accounts, including question banks from other schools you are added to. If you have multiple accounts at different schools, the home page will show question banks from all those accounts. To help you distinguish between them, the school name is displayed before the question bank name.

When you open a question bank that belongs to a different account, Ans automatically switches to that account. If that account requires two-factor authentication (2FA), you must enter the verification code when trying to navigate to another page within that school.

Pin question banks to your question banks overview

Pin question banks to your question banks overview

In the question banks overview, you have the possibility to pin question bank(s) at the top of the list. This makes it easier to find your most used question bank(s). 

To pin a question bank to your question banks overview, follow the steps below.

  1. Navigate to the question bank that you want to pin. 
  2. Click the push_pin -icon next to the question bank's name.

The question bank can be unpinned by opening it and to click on the push_pin -icon next to the question bank's name.
