error_outline Your ability to perform these actions may depend on the privilege settings of your school. Please contact your school administrators if you do not have permission to perform certain actions.
After creating a question bank assignment, you can perform different actions such as updating the general settings, test instructions, mark calculation settings, add attachments and view the log.
Only a publisher is able to perform these actions for a question bank assignment. An author is only able to see the overview of question bank assignments, the assignment itself and the analytics of the assignment.
Edit the question bank assignment settings
After creating a question bank assignment, you can edit the settings. A question bank assignment can always be edited unless it has a label with protection rules. In that case, the label must be adjusted first before you can edit the question bank assignment.
The settings include:
- General settings
- Renaming the assignment
- Changing the assignment type
- Adding tags
- Copying the assignment to a course
- Duplicating the assignment
- Moving the assignment
- Removing the assignment
- Test instructions
- Mark calculation
- Attachments
- Viewing the log
To edit a question bank assignment, follow the steps below.
- Navigate to the question bank assignment.
- Click settings Settings in the menu at the top.
Copy a question bank assignment to a course
Once a question bank assignment is created, the next step is to copy it to a course. Since students are linked to a course, not to a question bank, this step is necessary to make the assignment available for students. After copying the assignment to your course, you can schedule it, adjust the settings, and perform a final check to ensure the assignment is ready to be taken.
Copying the assignment to your course allows you to edit it directly within the course. However, the exercises in the course assignment remain linked to your question bank. This means you can synchronise changes between the assignment and the question bank, whether you make adjustments to the exercises in one or the other. Additionally, you will be able to view insights for each exercise used in a course assignment.
If your school uses the beta feature synchronise assignments, the question bank assignment and the course assignment are linked. This allows you to apply changes from your question bank assignment to your course assignment, including changes to test instructions and lay-out.
Before copying the question bank assignment to your course, you can select the assignment type. By default the assignment type is set to 'Digital test'. If Ans detects that you are using a question type that is not suitable for the selected assignment type, the copy button will be greyed out.
To copy a question bank assignment to a course, follow the steps below:
- Navigate to the question bank assignment.
- Click Settings in the menu at the top.
- Go to the Actions-section and click Copy.
- Select the course you want to copy the assignment to and click Save.
Duplicate a question bank assignment
The duplicate functionality makes it possible to duplicate your question bank assignment within your question bank. A duplicate can be used if you want to have a slightly different version of the assignment for example.
To duplicate a question bank assignment, follow the steps below.
- Navigate to the question bank assignment.
- Click settings Settings in the menu at the top.
- Go to the Actions-section and click Duplicate. The question bank assignment will be duplicated.
This duplicate is not synchronised with the original, so any edits made will remain separate. When duplicating a question bank assignment, all information within the assignment, including the settings, will be duplicated. The exercises will be added to the assignment, but they will not be duplicated in the exercises overview. You can view the insights for each assignment where a question bank exercise was added.
Move a question bank assignment
The move-functionality makes it possible to move your question bank assignment to another question bank. You will be able to move the assignment to any question bank that you have the publisher role in.
To move a question bank assignment, follow the steps below.
- Navigate to the question bank assignment.
- Click Settings in the menu at the top.
- Go to the Danger zone-section and click Move next to Move assignment.
- Select the question bank you want to move the assignment to.
- Click Save.
If a question bank assignment is moved to a different question bank, its objectives and insights will also be moved. If the domain and/or objectives do not yet exist in the new question bank, they will be added automatically. Only users who are part of the new question bank will have access to the assignment; moving the assignment does not transfer the members of the original question bank. The exercises included in the moved question bank assignment will also appear in the exercises overview of the question bank.
If your question bank assignment was generated based on a blueprint, it’s important to note that the blueprint will not be transferred to the new question bank. However, you can attach any of the blueprints available in the new question bank directly from your assignment.
Remove and restore a question bank assignment
If you no longer want to use a question bank assignment, you have the possibility to remove it. Removing the assignment will remove it from the overview and you will not be able to access it anymore. The assignment can always be restored from within the settings of the question bank.
To remove a question bank assignment, follow the steps below.
- Navigate to the question bank assignment.
- Click Settings in the menu at the top.
- Go to the Danger zone-section and click Remove.
- Click Confirm.
Removing a question bank assignment affects the assignments that were copied to a course. They will remain available, but the exercises are no longer connected to the question bank. Restoring the removed assignment will not revert this. If your school uses the beta feature synchronise assignments, you can re-link the course assignment to the question bank assignment after restoring. This will connect the exercises and assignment to the question bank.
To restore a removed question bank assignment, follow the steps below.
- Navigate to your question bank.
- Click settings Settings in the menu at the top.
- Click on Removed assignments in the menu on the left.
- Click on Restore next to the question bank assignment you want to restore.
If, in the meantime, you have updated the exercises added to this question bank assignment, the latest version will appear in your restored question bank assignment. The same applies to updates made to the objectives attached to the question bank exercises.
Add attachments or links to a question bank assignment
Attachments are added for different purposes depending on the assignment type. It is also possible to add links to a question bank assignment. Links are not visible to participants, but only to instructors in the assignment settings. The following file types can be added as an attachment and also previewed within the assignment with 25MB as the maximum upload size per file:
The following file types, among others, can be used as an attachment, with a maximum file-size of 25MB:
- .zip

Attachments are visible to participants by default when they take a digital test. An option can be enabled for each file that allows students to download the file during the taking session. Follow the steps below to enable this option.
- Navigate to your question bank assignment.
- Click settings Settings in the menu at the top.
- Click Attachments in the menu on the left.
- Click New attachment and upload a file.
- Click the more_vert-icon and click Edit.
- Check Participants can download this attachment during the test.
Links are never visible for participants. They can be used as an alternative for uploading a file. This is mostly used when the file-size is greater than the upload limit of your school.
To add links to a question bank assignment, follow the steps below.
- Navigate to your question bank assignment.
- Click settings Settings in the menu at the top.
- Click Attachments in the menu on the left.
- Click New link and fill in a name and the URL.
- Click Create.
If your school uses the beta feature synchronise assignments, the attachments and links are synchronised with the course assignment. Deleting an attachment from a question assignment will also remove it from any linked course assignments, including those that have already been taken or archived.
