This question type can be used in a written assignment only.
An open question is a question type that allows participants to respond in their own words, rather than choosing from predefined answers, such as in multiple choice questions. This makes it ideal if you want to assess understanding, reasoning, or creativity. The open question is one of the most used question types.
In written assignments, open questions can use different answer field formats: field with lines, empty field, or field with squares. Since answers are free-form, open questions must be graded manually. You can easily grade by using the grading types criteria, rubric or slider.
Questions can be created either in a question bank exercise or from within a course assignment. The image below shows an open question in a written assignment.
