ProctorExam partners with Ans to deliver online proctoring services. By enabling the integration with ProctorExam, the security of the administration of the test is increased. ProctorExam is customisable per test to adapt to all remote assessment requirements. With online proctoring, you’re able to administer digital tests in a more secure way.
ProctorExam provides the opportunity to either have live proctors present during the test or to check the footage of the taking session after the taking session. This is made possible by the ProctorExam extension, which is a Google Chrome extension. Therefore, this is the only browser which can be used when ProctorExam is enabled. ProctorExam can record and store footage of the taking session of the test. After the test, ProctorExam creates a student session per result, where the footage can be reviewed. It is possible to incorporate reviews of your invigilators that are performed in ProctorExam into Ans.
In Ans, you are able to enable the settings per digital test, to match the security settings with the goal of the test. For example, open book exams might require other security settings compared to closed book exams. Before you can set the settings per test, you will first need to enable and set up the integration on school level.
To set up the ProctorExam integration, follow the steps below.
- Click the school name in the menu on the left.
- Click settings Settings in the menu at the top.
- Click Integrations in the menu on the left.
- Click Configure in the ProctorExam-section.
- Fill in the ProctorExam subdomain, API token, secret key and name. You will receive these details from ProctorExam. The subdomain is the URL which redirects to the administrator environment in ProctorExam, the name is visible in the ProctorExam application. The API token and secret key are used to authenticate the institute.
- Click Configure.
You have now added your first institute. ProctorExam distributes the load over multiple institutes if you have large tests for example. ProctorExam is able to tell if you are in need of multiple institutes. To add one or more institutes, click Add institute.
You have the possibility to select an institution if the ProctorExam integration is enabled for a digital test. Here, the name and subdomain are visible.
Please note that is only possible to delete an institute if at least two institutes are created. If a typo has been made when setting up your only environment, you will either need to add a second institute first or disable the integration and enable it again.
Callback URL in ProctorExam
On the ProctorExam administration page, the callback URL field must be filled in at all times. If this field is empty or filled in incorrectly, the ProctorExam integration will not work. When the integration does not work, students will enter an infinite loop which will not allow them to start the test. To see the callback URL, you can login to your administration site of ProctorExam. The callback URL field can be found in the menu which is shown in the image below. Please note that a callback URL can only be used once. If you have multiple institutions in ProctorExam or if you use the integration for multiple Ans environments, such as our stage and production environment, you should have multiple callback URLs. Using the same callback URL twice will break the integration that first used the callback URL.
In case the callback URL is missing, you can also find the callback URL in Ans. The callback URL for ProctorExam can be copied from the integration settings. Please note that the callback URL is not the URL that is visible on the left hand side in the screenshot below. You can click the more_vert-icon. After that, you can click Copy callback URL. You can now paste the callback URL in ProctorExam.
What’s next
Once the ProctorExam integration is enabled on school level, you can start using it by enabling it on assignment level.
