error_outline ProctorExam can only be enabled if no other lockdown or proctoring solutions are enabled for your digital test.
Once the ProctorExam integration has been configured, you can start using the integration. You will first need to enable ProctorExam for your digital test, after that you can configure all settings for the test. After the taking session, it is possible to view the ProctorExam recordings. If you have enabled the reviews feature, ProctorExam is also used to add reviews to a digital test, which integrates the workflows of taking session and to further review the footage. To enable ProctorExam for your digital test, follow the steps below.
- Click on your course or use the search bar in the Courses-section.
- Click on your digital test or use the search bar.
- Click on settings Settings in the menu at the top.
- Click Integrations in the menu on the left.
- Click Enable next to ProctorExam.
- If you have multiple institutions connected to your school, you will see a screen where you can select the right institution. An digital test can only have one institution connected.
- At the left side, below all regular digital test options, you will find a new option, ProctorExam.
- Click on ProctorExam to configure the settings for the digital test.
Once ProctorExam is enabled, students can enter the test. Keep in mind, they will also need to enable the ProctorExam extension. The ProctorExam extension is a Google Chrome extension. Therefore, this is the only browser which can be used when ProctorExam is enabled. The ProctorExam extension can be downloaded via this website. If you want to review the student sessions, it is not necessary to have the ProctorExam extension installed. You can use the ProctorExam application to start reviewing. If you are using the preview option as an instructor, the ProctorExam extension is not necessary.
error_outline Students can start the ProctorExam checks 15 minutes before the timeslot starts. Students can start the test when the timeslot begins and when they have successfully gone through the ProctorExam checks.
After you have clicked on the menu option ProctorExam in the settings of your test, you can configure all relevant settings for your digital test. An overview per option is provided below. For the exact possibilities of all options mentioned below, we advise you to check the documentation of ProctorExam.

Proctor type
The proctor type is a dropdown menu which allows you to choose between two options. The default option is Record & Review.-
Record & Review
The first option is Record & Review which allows you to review the recorded footage after the test. -
Live Proctoring
With the live proctoring option, a proctor will be present to proctor the test live during the taking session of the test.

Use mobile camera
This option requires participants to enable their camera on their mobile phone as a second camera. The camera remains active during the whole taking session of the test. -
For AI reviewing
ProctorExam has not released support for artificial intelligence (AI) reviews. For more information on the progress of AI, please contact your ProctorExam contact person. This option cannot yet be enabled in Ans.
Below the first three general settings, Ans also offers six remaining settings which allows you to manage the reviewer instructions page in ProctorExam. Any changes to the settings below need to be confirmed by clicking Update.

Allow pen and paper
If this toggle is enabled, the option 'Allow pen and paper' is enabled in ProctorExam. -
Allowed websites, external applications, textbooks and materials
The behaviour of the four options that are mentioned above is the same. Every entry in the text field is sent to the reviewer instructions in ProctorExam. You can enter multiple entries by separating them via commas. -
Reviewer instructions
The reviewer instruction will be visible in the instructions for reviewers. Please note that it's only possible to type plain text in this field. Any URLs will remain text in the ProctorExam application. If you want to change the URLs to clickable URLs, you will need to adjust the text in the ProctorExam application.
After students have submitted their test, you are able to view the ProctorExam recordings by navigating to the ProctorExam student session. You can either do this by navigating to the ProctorExam dashboard or you can navigate to a student session directly from Ans. By following the steps below, you will be directed to the student session of one participant. From here, you can either continue your workflow in ProctorExam by navigating to the test there, or move back to Ans and select another student session.
To view the ProctorExam recordings, follow the steps below.
- Click on your course or use the search bar in the Courses-section.
- Click on your digital test or use the search bar.
- Click policyResults in the menu at the top.
- Click on the result of an individual participant. The result menu of the student will appear.
- Click on ProctorExam.
- Click on the URL to open the ProctorExam application and to navigate to the student session
If you have enabled the Reviews beta feature, you can make the most out of the integration between Ans and ProctorExam. Reviews of ProctorExam will also create a review in Ans. In ProctorExam, you have the possibility to approve or disapprove a review, similar with the two reviews options in Ans. If a participant has finished their attempt, A registration of the result will be visible in the Results menu. Next to the result number, there will be an indicator. This result is awaiting a review. When hovering over the result, you can see that the review that is missing, is from ProctorExam.
You can click on the result. On the left hand side, you will see the ProctorExam logo with the same indicator. You can click on ProctorExam to navigate to the student session. You can also use the menu option at the top to go to the URL of the same student session.
After you have submitted your review, the review that has been given in ProctorExam will be included in Ans as well. This includes both the review state and the content of the comment (in case given). The content of a comment can be found in the Log menu of the result. At this moment, the following reviews in ProctorExam are included in Ans:
- An approve review in ProctorExam will result in a green checkmark in Ans
- A disapprove review in ProctorExam will result in a red cross in Ans
- The 'slightly suspicious' review and the 'Mark as unreviewable' option will not be included in Ans. Any comments given in these options will not be included in Ans as well.
For example, after approving a result in ProctorExam with the comment 'It's OK', the Log result screen will look like this:
