A file upload question is used to allow students to upload a file during a digital test. If the uploaded file is for example a .pdf, .jpeg or .png it can be reviewed during grading. If the file is for example .xls, .docx or .psd it can be downloaded and then viewed. When students upload a file, they can download it again to check whether they have uploaded the correct file. Students can upload a single file per file upload question. If students are required to upload multiple files, you can add multiple file upload questions to a digital test or alternatively, use the hand-in assignment.
It is possible to use a file upload question for lockdown browsers. For Safe Exam Browser, you will always be able to upload a file during the test. With Schoolyear, uploading files is only available if this is enabled in the Schoolyear settings.
Questions can be created either in a question bank exercise or from within a digital test in a course. Students can upload various file types, where the maximum upload size per file limits to your school's upload limit. The following are examples of supported file types, though other formats may also be accepted:
- .zip
- .jpeg, .jpg, .png, .svg
- .xls, .xlsx, .csv
- .txt
- .py
- .mp3, .mp4
- .java
To prevent students from uploading damaging files, uploading the following system files is prohibited:
- .exe
- .sh
- .php
- .bat
- .com
- .cmd
- .inf
- .ipa
- .osx
- .pif

If students are required to upload system files, the file must be compressed into a zip file before uploading.

This marks the question as a bonus question, which means that its points are not included in the maximum amount of points achievable for that assignment. If a student answers the question incorrectly, this will not be detracted from the number of points and the mark. However, when awarding points, it is possible to achieve more points that the maximum points achievable for the assignment.

Partial scoring
Students will receive points when their answer is partly correct. For example, if the total number of points they can receive for a question is 2 and their answer is 50% correct, they will still receive 1 point. Without this option, they can only receive 0 or the maximum number of points.
