As of 1 January 2027, the beta feature 'Import metadata' will be removed. This feature consists of the Objectives CSV and Tags CSV import options available in the question bank import section. These import options will be marked as deprecated on 16 August 2026 and removed on 1 January 2027.
What's changing?
The Objectives CSV and Tags CSV imports on the question bank settings page (Question bank → Settings → General → Import) are being phased out. They are marked as deprecated on 16 August 2026 and removed on 1 January 2027.
After this date it is no longer possible to add objectives or tags to exercises by uploading a CSV file from the import section. All other imports on this page (Möbius (beta), QML, QTI, Respondus) are unaffected and remain available.
What does this mean?
- From 16 August 2026, a notice appears above the import options indicating that these two CSV imports are being phased out.
- From 1 January 2027, the Objectives CSV and Tags CSV import options are removed.
- Objectives and tags that were previously added to exercises are not affected - nothing is removed from your existing exercises.
Why are we making this change?
These CSV imports are rarely used and require each row to be matched to an exercise by its external ID or QTI identifier, which makes them difficult to use in practice. With the introduction of editing multiple question bank exercises at once, this process is simplified via the interface.
What you need to do
No action is required. After the removal, you can continue to assign objectives and tags to your exercises in two ways:
- Via the interface: open the question bank exercises table and assign objectives and tags directly per exercise, or select multiple exercises and assign them in bulk. This replaces the spreadsheet workflow without needing to look up exercise identifiers.
- Via the API: objectives and tags can be assigned to exercises programmatically. See the Ans API documentation (https://ans.app/api/docs/index.html) for details if you need to update exercises in bulk from your own systems.
