This question type can be used in a digital test only.
An open question is one of the most used question types within Ans. For an open question, there is an option to limit the number of words a student can use in their answer. There is also an option to work with predefined answers. All participants see a predefined answer when they start the question. Both students and teachers can make use of the text editor, but the student cannot use the HTML editor, create links, or create variables. Students have access to one additional functionality, which is the webcam photo. This allows students to take a photo using their webcam which can be embedded in their answers. This can be used for question types where a handwritten answer is preferred. The number of words and characters that the student has submitted will also be shown.
Open questions will need to be graded manually. To support you in doing this, you can make use of criteria, rubrics or sliders. Questions can be created either in a question bank exercise or from within a course assignment.

Partial Scoring
Students will receive points when their answer is partly correct. For example, if the total number of points they can receive for a question is 2 and their answer is 50% correct, they will still receive 1 point. Without this option, they can only receive 0 or the maximum number of points.
-
Predefined answer
Set a predefined answer which students can keep, edit or delete. This will show up in the answer field. Please keep in mind, that if you convert a digital test to a written assignment, the predefined answer will not copy over to your written assignment. This is also the case when you add an open question with a predefined answer from a question bank to your written assignment. An example is shown in the picture below.
-
Word limit
Indicates the maximum recommended number of words that can be submitted in the student’s answer. Students can continue writing and editing their response after exceeding this limit. When a word limit is set, the word counter is displayed as "X / Y words". Instructors decide how to factor going over the limit into grading.
