When creating a written assignment, you can customise the layout of your written assignment (Test configuration). This can be done by editing the information on the cover page, or adding an additional customised cover page.
Test instructions
When creating a written assignment, you may need to add a custom cover page or sheet to provide the students with instructions. This could be a cover page with extra information, a formula sheet or tables needed to answer the questions.
The test instructions are added to the official cover page of the Ans layout, where the students will fill in their student number. The uploaded file is always placed in front of the official cover page of the Ans layout and can have an unlimited amount of pages.
When cover pages are added to a written assignment using the upload functionality, they must also be submitted by students for scanning. This should be kept in mind whenever a cover page is required during the assignment.
For example, in the case of formula sheets, students often tear them off the exam for convenience and may forget to submit them. To prevent missing pages during the scanning process, these cover pages could be provided as separate attachments.

Options for the layout of your written assignment
Options for the layout of your written assignment
With the following options, you can edit the layout of your written assignment. Keep in mind that these options are greyed out after forms are generated. Delete the generated forms if you want to make changes to the layout. The language of the cover sheet depends on the language set at school level.
-
Ask for student's name
This option asks for the students to fill in their name on the cover page.
-
Exercise box
If the exercise box is enabled, an overview of the number of exercises that are in the assignment is visually presented on the cover page.
-
Show the date and time on the cover
The date and the time of the timeslot will be presented on the cover page underneath the course name and assignment name. To show the date and the time on the cover, you will first need to schedule the assignment.
-
Show multiple choice instructions
Students will be shown instructions on how to give answer to multiple choice and multiple response questions. The instructions for the multiple response questions will only be added to the cover page when the assignment contains multiple response questions. We recommend that students use a black or blue pen instead of a pencil because the improved contrast enhances recognition during scanning.
-
Keep the second page empty
The second page of the written assignment will be left blank.
-
Display the exercise name
If 'Display the exercise name' is enabled, the exercise names will be displayed in the assignment. If this option is disabled, students will only see the exercise numbers.
-
Display the number of points for each question
This option is used to either hide or display the number of points the students can earn for each question.
-
Shuffle the answer alternatives for each question
With this option, the order of the answer alternatives of the multiple choice questions will be shuffled. This option will not shuffle the order of the multiple choice questions.
To avoid confusion when creating and editing a written assignment, we do not shuffle the answer options in preview mode. When generating the written assignments, the answer options will be shuffled.
-
Add "Leave unanswered" option to multiple choice and multiple response questions
This option allows students to deliberately leave a question unanswered. Selecting this alternative will mark the question as having no given answer. If the guess correction is set to only count answered questions, responses with the blank alternative selected will be counted as unanswered, the same as if the student had selected no alternative at all.
-
Display all alternatives vertically
When this option is enabled, the answer alternatives of the multiple choice questions are stacked vertically (in case all alternatives fit on one line). If this option is disabled, the alternatives are displayed horizontally. This option works for written assignments only.
-
Display section names and descriptions
-
Shuffle sections
- No shuffling
- All sections
- Specific sections
- Enumeration
Choose for which enumeration you want the questions to be displayed to the students in. For example:
'1a 1b 2a 2b 2c 3', '1 2 3 4 5' or no enumeration.
