Instructors and reviewers can flag answers if they are uncertain about the number of points to award a participant for a specific question or if they would like to provide feedback on the marking of a colleague. Other reviewers or instructors can then examine the flagged answer to give a decisive answer. Adding, editing and resolving flags can all be managed in the grading overview of a question. This feature can be used to indicate that you need to revisit a question or to collaborate with colleagues to improve the quality of your review. Additionally, instructors and reviewers can view all flags per question.
Flag an answer
To flag an answer while reviewing an assignment, follow the steps below.
- Scroll down past the grading scheme and discussions within the exercise you are reviewing.
- Click on +New Flag.
- Add your comment. You can format your reply by clicking on the text_format icon to open the text editor. It is also possible to attach a file or do an audio recording.

- Click on Save.
- If necessary, you can click on the more_vert-icon to:
- Copy a link to the flag;
- Assign a different user;
- Edit the content;
- Delete the flag.
View and resolve flags
To review unresolved flags, follow the steps below.
- Navigate to the content_paste_search Review page of your assignment.
- If there are flags, the chip flag x/y resolved flag(s) appears under the grading progress bar. Under the Review per result section, the chip represents every flagged question in the assignment. The chip is also displayed under the exercise name in the Review per exercise section. This represents the flagged questions of that specific exercise.
- You will automatically be navigated to the relevant exercise or result based on the chip you selected. Check the flag, and re-grade the answer if needed.
- Add your comment. You can format your reply by clicking on the text_format icon to open the text editor. It is also possible to attach a file or do an audio recording.
- Click on Save to reply.
- Optionally, you can click on the more_vert-icon to edit or delete your response.
- Click on the check_circle -icon at the top to resolve the flag. The icon will turn green once the flag is resolved. You can undo this by clicking on the check mark again.
You can navigate between flags in the navigation bar at the bottom of your screen. Click on Previous flag to go back to the previous flag, and on Next flag to go to the next flag. You can also use the left arrow and right arrow on your keyboard to navigate back and forth.
View all flags
In the grading overview, you can view all the flags of the assignment, or per exercise based on the chip you clicked on. Each flag displays the result ID, the position of the result, and which question is flagged.
To view all flags, follow the steps below.
- Click on View all next to the Flags subheading or press F on your keyboard.
- A side panel opens with the following tabs:
- Open: Displays all open flags of the assignment or the exercise you navigated to. It can be filtered on the assignee of the flag.
- Resolved: Displays all resolved flags of the assignment or the exercise you navigated to. It can also be filtered on the assignee of the flag.
If a flag is resolved, it will be added to the 'resolved flags' chip. Clicking on this chip first navigates you through unresolved flags. If all flags are resolved, it will instead navigate you through the resolved flags.
