After participants have submitted an assignment and the results have been published, they have the option to start a discussion if the setting 'Allow asking questions' is enabled in the publication settings.
To review discussions from participants, follow the steps below.
- Navigate to the content_paste_search Review overview of your assignment,
- If a discussion has been started by a participant, a message will be displayed with the number of messages. Under the Review per result, the total number of discussions is shown. For each exercise, the number of discussions for that exercise is shown in a chip.
- Click the chip
- Fill in your reaction by typing in the message field. You can also format your discussion by clicking on the text_format icon which will take you to the rich content editor
- Once you have typed your message you can choose multiple ways to save, send or communicate your response to the student. These examples are outlined below:
- Send: This function will send the response directly to the participant. The message cannot be altered later on.
- Save as draft: This function will allow you to save the response as draft (like a concept e-mail) so the response can be altered after reading and responding to all questions so all participants will be treated equally. All draft messages can be sent later on in one click all together. Only the author of a draft message, whether it's a reviewer or an instructor, can send it. Administrators are also unable to send draft messages created by instructors or reviewers. This is to prevent unintended delivery of draft messages to students.
- Close and Send: This function immediately closes the discussion upon sending. This prevents the student from responding back to your message and can be useful if you see no added value of them doing so.
- Close and Save as Draft: This function closes the discussion and saves your response as a draft. This can be useful if you want to close the discussion to prevent the student from responding but would not like to send out your response just yet. In this way you can also use the send all drafts functionality to ensure all students get their response at the same time but do not have to close all discussions individually.
- You can also close a discussion by clicking on the check_circle icon next to the discussion banner. The check mark will then turn green Closing a discussion means that both the participant and instructor cannot send messages anymore. If necessary, a closed discussion can be opened again by an instructor by clicking on the checkmark once again.
You are also able to view all discussions per question by clicking on the view all button parallel to the Discussions subheading. This allows you to see all discussions relevant to the question you have navigated to. These discussions are sorted by Open, Closed and Drafts. To send all draft discussions at once please follow the steps below.
- Click on View All next to the Discussions subheading
- You will immediately be navigated to the Open tab of the discussion. The Closed and Drafts tab are on the right of the Open tab. Click on the Drafts tab to navigate to it. This tab contains all the discussion responses that have been saved as a draft.
- At the bottom of the Drafts tab you will see the button Send All Drafts. Clicking on the button will send all your responses to the relevant students.
If there are any discussions within the results, then your Review overview will contain chips. Here you will be able to see the 'Draft' chip and 'Closed Discussions' chip. Clicking the 'Draft' chip will navigate you through all discussions with a draft message.
Clicking the 'Closed Discussions' chip will navigate you through all open discussions if there are any. If there are no open discussions, this will navigate you through all closed discussions.
In your personal settings, you can enable receiving an email regarding discussions between you and the student. Click on your user icon at the top right of your screen, click on 'Settings' and go to the submenu 'Emails' to enable it.
