On 13 December 2026, the option to turn off the minimum and maximum mark limits will be removed. From then on, marks will always remain between the minimum and maximum mark.
What's changing?
When the mark calculation type is set to Formula, the Limit minimum mark and Limit maximum mark checkboxes control whether a calculated mark can go below the minimum mark or above the maximum mark. These checkboxes are being phased out on every page where the mark calculation can be configured:
- Assignment settings
- Question bank assignment settings
- School settings
After the removal, both limits always apply. If a calculated mark is below the minimum mark, it is set to the minimum mark. If it is above the maximum mark, it is set to the maximum mark.
What does this mean?
From 13 December 2026:
- New assignments, and existing assignments with both limits on: the limit checkboxes are no longer shown.
- Existing assignments with one or both limits off: these assignments and their results remain unchanged and show a “Deprecated” badge. Once both limits are turned on, the checkboxes are removed, and the limits can no longer be turned off. Changing the mark calculation settings will trigger mark recalculations, unless the assignment has a label with the protection rule "Disable results changes" applied or the result is archived.
- Question bank assignments: the limit checkboxes are no longer shown. A difference in these settings no longer triggers the "Out of sync" banner.
- Copies: the limit checkboxes are not shown. Both limits apply, even if a limit is turned off in the original assignment.
Why are we making this change?
We are removing the option to turn off mark limits due to limited usage. This helps us reduce product complexity and make it simpler to use.
What you need to do
- Update API integrations that set these attributes. They will no longer be supported. See the Ans API documentation.
