As of 1 September 2026, changes will be introduced to how location restrictions are configured for digital tests. Location restrictions on timeslot level will become available with the 21 June 2026 release. From that date onwards, both assignment-level and timeslot-level location restrictions can be used. From 1 September 2026, location restrictions configured at assignment level will no longer be supported, and location restrictions must be configured on individual timeslots.
These changes improve the flexibility and consistency of digital test access management by standardising location restrictions at timeslot level.
What does this mean?
From 1 September 2026 onwards:
- Location restrictions configured at assignment level will no longer be supported.
- Users can configure location restrictions directly on individual timeslots.
- Timeslots can be configured to allow access from anywhere or from one or more specific locations.
- API integrations that manage assignment-level location restrictions must be updated to use timeslot-level location restrictions instead.
From 21 June 2026 until 1 September 2026:
- Both assignment-level location restrictions and timeslot-level location restrictions will continue to work.
- If assignment-level location restrictions are configured, these restrictions will automatically apply to all timeslots of the assignment.
- While assignment-level location restrictions are present, the location settings on the timeslot cannot be modified.
- New timeslots created for assignments without assignment-level location restrictions can be configured independently.
Timeslot location restriction behaviour (available from 21 June 2026 onwards):
- When editing a timeslot, a new Location section is available with the options Anywhere and Specific locations.
- Selecting Specific locations allows one or more locations to be selected.
- Learners can only start a digital test when their IP address matches one of the locations configured for the active timeslot.
- If Anywhere is selected, learners can start the digital test from any location.
Why are we making this change?
Location restrictions on timeslot level will be supported from the 21 June 2026 release onwards, making it possible to manage location-based access control in a more flexible way. By standardising location restrictions at timeslot level, different test sessions can have different location requirements while maintaining consistent access control for digital tests.
