As of 21st of June 2026, the Image question and Drawing question types will be combined into a single Drawing question type.
Currently, these question types are used in different contexts. The Drawing question is available in digital tests and allows students to sketch their answers, optionally on top of a background image. The Image question is available in written assignments and allows instructors to upload an image that students must mark, draw on, or label directly, without an additional text field.
Because these question types overlap significantly in functionality, they will be merged to simplify the question overview and provide one consistent way to work with image-based and drawing-based responses across both digital tests and written assignments.
The updated Drawing question type will support:
- Uploading a background image (e.g. JPEG, PNG)
- Allowing students to draw, mark, or label directly on the image or on a blank
- The existing grading methods (Criteria, Rubric, and Slider)
What does this mean?
- As of 21st of June 2026, it will no longer be possible to create new Image questions.
- The Drawing question will remain available and will serve as the standard question type for image-based and drawing-based responses in both digital tests and written assignments.
- Existing Image questions (used in written assignments) will automatically be converted to the new Drawing question type.
- Existing Drawing questions (used in digital tests) will remain unchanged.
- Previously graded submissions will remain unchanged after conversion.
This change ensures a clearer and more consistent experience when creating visual or drawing-based questions across different assignment types.
