Dedicated API tokens help make critical automations more reliable by giving them their own API rate limit. This is especially useful for automations that need to keep running consistently, even when other users or systems at your school are making API requests.
Schools can use the ans* API to automate key tasks, such as scheduling assignments or syncing user data. Normally, API usage is affected by the rate limits shared across the school. When multiple users or systems make requests at the same time, this can affect automations that support important workflows.
To reduce this dependency, schools can request a dedicated API token for an automation account. A dedicated token has its own separate rate limit of 1000 requests, independent of other users at your school.
This provides the following advantages:
- More reliable automations: API activity from other users or systems does not use the dedicated token's rate limit.
- Greater predictability: You can better account for the API capacity available to an important automation.
- Support for critical workflows: Automations can continue running reliably as long as they stay within the dedicated token's individual rate limit.
Schools on the Campus plan can request one automation account with a dedicated API token included. Schools without the Campus plan, or schools that need additional automation accounts, can purchase these separately. If your school uses the API for automation and would like to request a dedicated token, please contact our support team.
