If exercises are created externally or found in external question banks, they can be imported when the file format is of QTI 2.1 (.zip) or .qml. There is also an option to import questions from a CSV file, however this option needs to first be enabled by an administrator via the beta features.
To import an exercise into a question bank, follow the steps below.
- Click domain School name in the menu on the left.
- Click folder Question banks in the menu at the top.
- Click on your question bank or use the search bar in the Question bank-section.
- By default, the page will open on the extension Exercises tab.
- Click on the dropdown menu Import in the top right corner.
- Click on either QML import or QTI import.
- When using the QTI import, click on Download template file or create a ZIP-file in either QML or QTI standard.
- Once your file is ready, click Browse for a file and select the file, or drag and drop the file into the pop-up.
When you import a file, you will notice the Successfully scheduled pop-up appear. This means the platform will import the given data in the background. Once this has been finished, you will see the new data in this overview after refreshing the page.
The following information will be imported:
- Names of the exercises
- Descriptions
- Questions
- Grading schemes
The following information will need to be manually added:
- Labels
- Tags
- Relations
- Objectives (read more on how to export domains and objectives here)
What’s next
When you have imported your exercises, you can manually add them to your assignment.

Great that CSV files can be imported! Where can I find the specification of that CSV format (i.e. which columns, what goes where etc, so that we can write an export filter for our R package where we produce items)?
