In this step, you will learn how to review your first student.
In the previous step, you learnt how to adjust the review options. When you are ready to review your first student, go back to the review page by clicking on mark_chat_read Review.
Review navigation options
In most cases, you'll see three review navigation options. It may appear different if the question has flags or discussions.
- Review
This option is the most used option for review as it only takes you through ungraded students. All answers that are automatically graded by Ans or have already been reviewed by your colleagues/other reviewers will be skipped. The order in which the students are reviewed is based on their submission time of the assignment. If this option is greyed out, this indicates that all students for that question are graded. - Review sequential
Reviewing sequential will take you through all answers graded and ungraded. This navigation is used to check the awarded points. - Review randomly
Reviewing randomly is similar to the first review option as it will also only take you through ungraded students. However, the order will be random and not based on the submission time.
Once you have clicked on the preferred review navigation option you will be taken to the review screen. The review screen consists of three main sections: The header at the top, the student's given answers & grading scheme and the navigation section at the bottom.
Header
On the left side of the header is the arrow_back-icon button to go back to the overview. Next to that is the student number of the student you are currently reviewing. The student name will only be displayed with their student number if the grade anonymous option is turned off.
The keyboard_arrow_left 1/2 keyboard_arrow_right-icon shows the student you are currently reviewing and how many students there are in total to review. You can use the arrows to navigate to the previous or next student. The total number of students will differ if you have enabled filtering for a group or a class.
On the right of the header are four buttons (plus the more_vert-icon button to access the grading settings).
Review
The review screen will always open on the review tab by default, which shows the grading scheme.
Annotations
The annotations tab can be used to make annotations and add comments to the answer of a student. The use of annotations is explained in further detail in Step 5 - Add annotations.
Discussions
When students have the ability to start a discussion, the messages of a student of this question will be displayed. Discussions are relevant in a later stage after the test has been published and the publication allows for discussions.
Flags
You can make use of flags when you want to highlight the question of this student. A comment can be added to the flag. The use of flags is explained in further detail in Step 6 - Flag an answer.
Answers & grading scheme
On the left side of the screen, you will see the students view/version of the digital test where you can view the exercise, the question and the students answer. The students answer is shown in the box. Below the box, you will also be shown how many other students submitted the same answer.
On the right side of the screen, you can see the exercise name and question name, the learning objective (only if your school uses objectives), the current amount of points and the reviewer who graded the question.
How to award points
How you can award points is depending on the type of grading that is selected when setting up the grading scheme. If you chose to grade with criteria or rubrics, you can select the criteria you want to award to the student by clicking on it. The criterion will turn green if it has a positive number of points or grey if it has a negative number of points associated. If no criteria is met, click None of the above to award zero points.
If you chose to grade with a slider, you can drag the slider to the number of points you want to award or fill in the number of points in the box.
If you are grading with points and you've enabled the option to use adjustments to question points, you can deviate from the grading scheme and award an adjustment to the number of points. Fill in the number of points (positive or negative) and click on update. You can read more about using adjustment to question points here.
Add a comment to a criterion
When awarding points, you can leave a comment under the awarded point by clicking +Comment. A text editor will open where you can add your comment. Click on Save when you are done to save the comment.
